Noggin : book review

Noggin by John Corey Whaley

The 13 year old got this book for her birthday. She read the blurb to me and asked if I would like to read it and I have to say my first thought was that it didnt sound like my cup of tea.

Well, just a couple of pages in I knew I was going to love this book!

16 year old Travis Coates was dying of cancer, then he wasn’t anymore.
He was offered a chance to be cryogenically frozen until it was possible to bring him back. Nobody knew how long this would be.
Travis wakes after what seems like a short nap with his own head on somebody else’s body, its five years later.
Travis has to go back to school, but his best friend and his girlfriend have grown up and moved on.
Things have changed at home too.

This book is written so well, just a few pages in I already really liked Travis, and really wanted things to go well for him. The narrative style is spot on!
Hatton was also a great character, almost my favourite!

I really enjoyed each of the different relationships in this book, Travis and Hatton, Travis and Kyle, Travis and his parents and the main focus of the book Travis and Cate, Cate has moved on, she loves Travis but has grown up and is engaged.Travis wants to win Cate back. Its such a bittersweet reconciliation.

I found the story incredibly moving, Travis is happy to be back but everyone has moved on,and he doesn’t feel he has anything to be back for.
Can he find a way to reconcile his old life with his new one.

This book was an easy read, and it often made me laugh as well as being very moving.
I give it 4 out of 5 on the planet T great book scale

Snore and peace

I have always been a lover of tea, but I fear I am becoming addicted to new teas, I actually cant leave a shop without a new tea in my hand.
Ive need tried a Clipper tea before and I’m always looking for something natural to help me get a good night sleep, so when I found this

Snore and peace tea

I just had to give it a try.

Its Chamomile, lavender and lemon balm, and its lovely. The lavender is quite heavy but I really like it , and the lemon comes through as a lovely after taste.
I’ve been having a mug of snore and peace in bed every night and it has absolutely helped relax me, in fact last night I had a terrible night settling the kid but I went downstairs at half past midnight, pretty stressed and made myself a mug of snore and peace, took it up to bed and It wasn’t long till I was much calmer and drifting off to sleep.

If you need a bit of a hand getting off to sleep at night or you just like really nice tea, its definitely worth giving this a go.

It gets a big thumbs up from me πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

I bought this tea myself, I wrote about it because I genuinely love this tea.

Sainsburys Lemon, ginger and honey tea

You may have noticed from either the blog, my twitter or my instagram feed that I really like tea!
I always try to get two new ones in my weekly shopping and if I find myself in a shop during the week I rarely leave without a packet of tea.
This week in Sainsburys I found this Taste the difference, Lemon, ginger and honey tea.

Three of my favourite flavours in tea!
I do love a ginger tea, most of the ginger teas I’ve tried are quite heavy with the ginger (which is no bad thing)

I brewed the tea for 3 minutes, 1 bag in a mug, and added a little sugar (I just cant quit the sugar), and gave the tea bag a good squeeze on the side of the cup.
The result was a perfectly blended tea. Rather than being heavy or overpowering the ginger was perfectly balanced with the lemon and honey, a much more gentle ginger cuppa. Which is not to say it wasn’t full of flavour.
I really enjoyed this tea, so much so that its earned a permanent spot in my tea cupboard.

My verdict its well worth a try, sweet, soothing with just the right amount of ginger for a gentle brew. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Look at the pretty tea bag!

teapigs Darjeeling Earl Grey

I love tea! I really do.
I drink a lot of the stuff, in fact i would much rather have a good cup of tea than any other drink at any given time.
I have been trying lots of different teas lately and this week I found Teapigs, I bought a pack of Darjeeling Earl Grey tea bags.
Earl grey is by far my favourite black tea and a really good earl grey is not an easy thing to find.
This is what Teapigs say about their Earl grey

The tea bags themselves are really pretty

I let the tea brew for a good 3 minutes (in my lovely new mug)

Then added a little sugar, a dash of milk (always skimmed for me, if you’re wondering) and gave it a good stir. I made a mental note to buy a lemon as I’ve never actually tried it with a slice of lemon, then I put my feet up to (hopefully) enjoy my brew.

the verdict
This really is a good Earl grey!
The blend is just right, not wishy washy like some supermarket Earl greys I’ve tried but also not overpowering and definitely not too perfumey.
In fact I’ve adopted this as my new regular brand!

While I was enjoying my tea I had a look at the teapigs website, now I need want to try all of their teas, I think chocolate flake will be the first one.

If you like earl grey you should definitely give this one a whirl

Picture perfect : book review

20140707-073855-27535242.jpg

This weekend I read Picture Perfect, by Holly Smale I had read the first two books in the series, Geek girl and Model misfit, and lately Ive been having a bit of a reading block, struggling to enjoy a book, but I just knew that Picture perfect would be the book to unblock my love of reading .

In book one, Harriet Manners, total geek accidentally becomes an international model (which was unfortunately her best friends dream).

In book two Harriets life is about to change again, her dad and stepmum have a baby on the way and Harriet ends up in Tokyo modelling where she meets with one disaster after another .

In picture perfect , book 3 Harriet is about to turn 16 and also about to start 6th form , she has planned everything, but it all changes when her parents announce they are moving to new york, Harriet has to leave her familiar life behind including her best friend, her stalker and her dog, will she make friends in new york, will she fall back into the modelling business and most importantly what will happen between her and Nick? They are now officially boyfriend and girlfriend but Does Harriet push their relationship too far?

These books are just brilliant , Harriet knows a lot of facts and I find the random facts throughout the books really interesting, the books are also very funny.
By the last third of book 3 I was ooohing , aaahing , oh-no-ing and laughing with every turn of the page.

They are young adult books but I can testify to the fact that whether you are 39 like me or 12 like my daughter who also read the whole book this weekend you will enjoy this book , if you enjoy drama, romance, an adventure and a very funny read.

Now the 12 year old and I are desperately hoping we haven’t heard the last of Harriet Manners .

Mixtape monday : linky (2)

I’m linking up with Mixtape monday again over at http://www.claraunravelled.co.uk .
As I’ve said before on my blog ( millions of times) I love a bit of kitchen dancing, it just makes everything better.
I listen to Magic fm in the kitchen all the time (yes I know its not the coolest of radio stations, but I love it) I switch it on as soon as walk into the kitchen in the morning and it stays on until I go to bed.
I don’t know what it is about this song but its one of those songs that when It comes on the radio (they play it alot on magic) I just have to hit the volume button up high, and bust some moves (bad ones obvs) , this song never fails to put a smile on my face……
